We care for our people, product and the environment.

We know there are issues affecting our industry, so we don’t sit back. Instead we try to improve it. As a result, we are involved in the following bodies & organisations:

Scallop Industry Consultation Group

A self-nominated group representing all sectors of the UK scallop industry; inshore and offshore catchers and processors. Committed to helping deliver sustainable and profitable fisheries now and for the future. It looks to achieve this by:

  • Making recommendations to UK Fishing Administrations regarding the management of scallop fishing effort. This includes international swap and joint management arrangements with EU member states.
  • Also to devise and put recommendations to the UK Fishing Administrations regarding fleet capacity.

UK Scallop Stock Assessment

We, and other companies, sponsor these biomass measures and are a member of the project board. This group is a partnership between industry and CEFAS (Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science). CEFAS is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). The aims of this group are to:

  • Provide an assessment of King Scallop stocks in English waters, and supporting this biological advice by conducting a comprehensive, robust stock assessment.
  • Define the current and target maximum sustainable yields for this scallop fishery.
  • Calculate scallop stock locations and total available yields using best available evidence.

Project UK Fisheries Improvements

Working towards an environmentally sustainable future for UK fisheries by running Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs). We are a funding and active member of this group.

South Western Fish Producers Organisation

We are an active member of this catching sector regional organisation

Shellfish Association Great Britain (SAGB)

The SAGB represents the views of shellfish fisheries, both wild and farmed, across Great Britain. SAGB presents their members concerns and suggestions to government and other users of the sea. As with other bodies, the SAGB are focused on working with other groups to make sure the shellfish sector has a sustainable and therefore viable and bright future. We are active members of SAGB.

“Coombe Fisheries are the perfect partner for us. Knowledgeable, resourceful and practical there isn't much they don't know about their products. This enthusiasm can be seen in the sheer quality of their products, the service they provide and the delivery they achieve. They go about things with the minimum of fuss, and are one of those suppliers that just tick along, leaving you safe in the knowledge that they will do exactly what they say they will and when, with an element of humour and a minimum of drama.”
